Beschreibung
Join us for an evening of discussion, reflection, music, and community against anti-Muslim racism in Germany. As racism and far-right politics continue to intensify across Europe, this event brings together speakers, organizers, and community members to explore how anti-Muslim racism shapes politics, state policy, feminism, migration, Palestine solidarity, and public life in Germany today — while also asking how we can build collective resistance and meaningful solidarity across communities.
According to DW, over 3,000 anti-Muslim incidents were recorded in Germany in 2024. A 60% rise from 2023. According to CLAIM, 9 out of 10 incidents are never reported. Muslims are 4 times more likely to live in poverty. 72% of Muslims live with racist discrimination. 50% of Germans agree with anti-Muslim statements. The AfD is now the second largest party. The numbers are expected to get worse in 2026. Join us for four inputs addressing different angles of antimuslim racism in Germany.
Muslims and the Left by Mohammed from Black Radicals
Why is the Left unable to foster solidaristic ties with the Muslim working class? Since the 1960s, the question of race and resistance has plagued the Left. Today, the increase in migration has forced the Left to engage questions of race with some seriousness. Mohamed will outline the history of immigrants and the Left in Germany, and how this history affects us today. Importantly, what lessons we can learn, and what should the future of the German Left look like?
Feminism from a Muslim Perspective by Mai from Tadamun
Mai will speak about how Muslim women are always considered the victims in the west. While the well intentioned may think that this is intersectional feminism and that they are just thinking about the poor oppressed Muslim woman. This mostly perpetuates orientalist stereotypes and dehumanizes Muslims, both women and men and western states have used this narrative to justify its wars and genocides in the last few decades.
Antisemitism, Islam and Palestine by Rand
Rand will speak about how Muslims and Arabs in Europe are pictured as inherently antisemitic through state policies, education programs, and political discourse. This radicalization combined with the weaponization of antisemitism act as silencing tool against Palestinian and pro Palestinian movement in Germany.
The German State and Racism Against Muslims by Zenobya from Black Radicals
How should we understand the German state and anti Muslim racism? Is the state really just a rationale actor that acts according to its self-interest, making the question of immigration and borders just a rational calculation? Or does race play a more central role? How can we understand the German state’s obsession with Muslims? Should anti-racist resistance be against the AfD or is it against the state itself? Zenobya will join us to answer these timely questions, as the AfD is poised to lead in the next elections.
Jam Session with "Café Aman Freiburg"
From 8 PM, we invite you to wind down the evening together with acoustic music.
As part of the concert series "Café Aman Freiburg," curated by Ahmed Abdelali, an open jam session will take place. Café Aman Freiburg is a new nomadic concert and jam session series dedicated to the modal music traditions of Greece, Turkey, the Maghreb, and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Together we dive into these soundscapes, meet one another, learn from each other (songs and rhythms) and let new musical spaces emerge. The acoustic jam session is open to all.
Please bring your own instruments. Come by and become part of this special evening.
